Supersight: What Augmented Reality Means for Our Lives, Our Work, and the Way We Imagine the Future

David Rose, MIT lecturer, author, and serial entrepreneur offers a unique perspective on the next platform of spatial computing, what he calls SuperSight. His last book, Enchanted Objects is one of the definite texts on designing the Internet of Things. David wrote the seminal patent on photo-sharin

g, founded an AI company focused on computer vision, and was VP of Vision Technology at Warby Parker. David is known for translating complex technologies into delightfully intuitive new products and consulting to businesses on how to thrive in digital disruption. David’s work has been featured at th

e MoMA, covered in The New York Times, WIRED, The Economist, and parodied on The Colbert Report. David’s apartment was featured in a New York Times video called "The Internet of Things," where he shared some examples of how to incorporate magic into mundane objects: a Google Earth coffee table that

responds to gesture, Skype cabinetry in the living room, and a doorbell reminiscent of Mrs. Weasley’s click which rings when a family member is on their way home. He even got John Stewart to belly-laugh when he was a guest on the Tonight Show!

The Highland Towers collapse was an apartment building collapse that occurred following a major landslide on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, in Selangor, Malaysia. The collapse of the Highland Towers' Block resulted in 48 deaths. Residents and others were evacuated from the other two blocks due to safety concerns.

At the time of the collapse, the Highland Towers complex consisted of three similar 13-story blocks, built in phases between 1974 and 1982. They were made at the western base of a steeply sloped hill, terraced extensively in the early 1980s. Block 1 was the southernmost building; Block 2 was built north-northwest of it, and Block 3 was built west of Block 2. These towers were home to affluent middle-class families; a sizeable percentage of the residents were expatriates.

After ten consecutive days of rainfall, a landslide destroyed the retaining wall behind the first block's car park.

Blok 1 (dibina 1977, paling selatan)

Blok 3 (dibina 1981, barat laut blok 1, barat blok 2).

We Keep the Dead Close: A Murder at Harvard and a Half Century of Silence

(文/博客來編譯)     A Recommended Book from: The New York Times * The Washington Post * Publisher's Weekly * Kirkus Reviews* Booklist * The Boston Globe * Goodreads * Town & Country * Refinery29 * BookRiot * CrimeReads * Glamour * Popsugar * PureWow     Dive into a "tour de force of inv

estigative reporting" (Ron Chernow): a "searching, atmospheric and ultimately entrancing" (Patrick Radden Keefe) true crime narrative of an unsolved 1969 murder at Harvard and an "exhilarating and seductive" (Ariel Levy) narrative of obsession and love for a girl who dreamt of rising among men.

You have to remember, he reminded me, that Harvard is older than the U.S. government. You have to remember because Harvard doesn't let you forget.     1969: the height of counterculture and the year universities would seek to curb the unruly spectacle of student protest; the winter that Harv

ard University would begin the tumultuous process of merging with Radcliffe, its all-female sister school; and the year that Jane Britton, an ambitious twenty-three-year-old graduate student in Harvard's Anthropology Department and daughter of Radcliffe Vice President J. Boyd Britton, would be found

bludgeoned to death in her Cambridge, Massachusetts apartment.     Forty years later, Becky Cooper a curious undergrad, will hear the first whispers of the story. In the first telling the body was nameless. The story was this: a Harvard student had had an affair with her professor, and the prof

essor had murdered her in the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology because she'd threatened to talk about the affair. Though the rumor proves false, the story that unfolds, one that Cooper will follow for ten years, is even more complex: a tale of gender inequality in academia, a 'cowboy cult

ure' among empowered male elites, the silencing effect of institutions, and our compulsion to rewrite the stories of female victims.     We Keep the Dead Close is a memoir of mirrors, misogyny, and murder. It is at once a rumination on the violence and oppression that rules our revered instituti

ons, a ghost story reflecting one young woman's past onto another's present, and a love story for a girl who was lost to history. Becky Cooper is a former New Yorker editorial staff member and Senior Fellow at Brandeis’s Schuster Institute for Investigative Reporting. Her undergraduate thesis, a l

iterary biography of David Foster Wallace, won Harvard’s Hoopes Prize, the highest undergraduate award for research and writing. Research for this book was supported by the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists
